Dahlia Watercolor Silks Dwarf Seeds offer stunning, fully double flowers in luminous watercolor shades of rosy coral, rich apricot, soft salmon, buttercream, and glowing lilac. Bred in Holland, these 1 1/2 to 2-foot plants are perfect for borders, large areas, or showy containers, blooming from summer through fall. Their beautifully patterned petals and painterly colors create natural bouquets both in the garden and indoors. To start indoors, sow seeds 2 inches apart in seed-starting mix, 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. Cover ½ inch deep, keep moist and warm, and provide a strong light source until ready to plant outdoors. Once the weather settles, acclimate seedlings and plant them 8 inches apart. For outdoor sowing, wait until night temperatures are above 50°F (10°C) and sow 2-3 seeds ½ inch deep and 8 inches apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Keep the soil moist and thin to one plant per spot once established. Amend soil with compost or aged manure, and feed monthly to encourage strong growth. Remove faded flowers to extend blooming, and save tubers in the fall for next year’s plants. For containers, space seedlings 4-6 inches apart in pots at least 16 inches wide and tall.
